“Having arrived after driving a few hours, we wanted to relax in a well rated hotel for the evening before our day of fun at the zoo and Frontier City. We get our keys from the granite topped front desk in a nice open area with some public seating and head upstairs. Arriving at the room, we enter a key and open the door. The room looks very clean. Beds are made very crisply and room is nicely chilled. We all start settling in and I of course lie down on the bed. Looking at the corner above me I see the drywall tape peeling away from the ceiling and now my brain snaps into critique mode. How much of a shiny facade have I fallen for? The drywall tape issue extended beyond the spot originally noticed but to around a large portion of the room. I notice that the vent covers in the bathroom are mostly rusty. The caulking in the tub is blackened and you can see a few spots where an attempt was made to cover it with newer caulking that happened to be a slightly different shade of white. We all changed and decided to go swimming before the night was done to relax for a little so we headed back downstairs. We found our way to the pool by following the warm, humid air while taking note of the wallpaper peeling away at the seams. The pool area was dank dimly lit. The paint in spots was coming off of the wall and ceiling. Some of the windows were open, likely to siphon off some of the humidity, and we noticed some type of wasp nest that had taken hold on the upper wall. For being as muggy as it was, the green water was unusually chilly. We hung around until the pool was to close and then headed back up to the room. Having rinsed off in the shower and have gotten ready for bed, we noted an extreme lack of available outlets near the bed. To be fair, the clock had two USB ports for cords but only one wall socket was available. We ended up unplugging some of the bedside lamps in order to have our things near us. While the full sized double beds were comfy enough, my wife mentioned that the road noise from the highway kept her up for part of the night. The included breakfast consisted of prepackaged Jimmy Dean sandwiches, some preheated and on a skillet, stale bagels, and fruit cocktail. We found ourselves discussing buying fresh food elsewhere after we "finished." Taking a good look inside the lobby we found similar cracks in the facade that we noted elsewhere. I will say that the staff we dealt with was pleasant and I have nothing against them (the only reason to not give just a single star). We did ask if there was a bigger room that we could upgrade to but we had too many people to change without getting a second room. They apparently only have the two types of rooms. If the hotel was nicer we might have missed out on our trip to the zoo because we had toyed with the thought of staying and swimming before we checked in. The hotel made it easy to decide to check out early.”

“Staff was the best part. Super accommodating. The rooms and amenities could use updating.”
