Suzhou, autrefois appelé « Soochow », se trouve près de Shanghai, sur les rives du lac Tai, dans la région du delta du Yangzi. Selon certains écrits, l’histoire de Suzhou remonterait à plus de 4 000 ans et à 2 500 ans selon les sources officielles. Il s’agit de l’une des plus anciennes villes de Chine ainsi que du berceau de la culture Wu. Depuis sa fondation, la ville est au cœur le centre économique et culturel de la région de Jiangnan. Elle est considérée comme un « paradis sur terre ».

“The Fireplace restaurant
Quite possibly the finest dining experience in all of Suzhou.
Chef Ahmed brings the best of land or sea to your plate in a very comfortable upmarket setting. With a menu which is constantly rotating throughout the year you can guarantee you'll never have the same dish twice.
The pairings with good wine suggested are usually perfect and the more robust drinkers will easily find something should they seek it.
The staff have fluent English and the standards of service are of the utmost levels.
Easy to get to as it is so central and the building itself has an interior from a science fiction novel.
It's not cheap but if you get the chance to go please take it, it's a million miles from Suzhou whilst retaining everything of its charm. A real treat.”
