“Absolutely Terrible Arrival: they put our bags on the ground in the driveway. No cart and right in the way of traffic where it was left until I went in and forced one of the 4 other bellmen who were doing nothing to get a cart. Check in: in perfect English he said “if you don’t speak French I won’t check you in” and true to his word he made us leave and go somewhere else. Where despite being after 3pm we waited 2 hours for a room. Service: it’s true if you don’t speak French they literally won’t serve you. Stand in line for a crepe and they will serve the person behind you. Not you. Need a coffee and ask in broken French and they won’t serve you either. Room: dark, dated, many things broken (including the shower) and is that blood on the carpet? I’ve traveled with Accor hotels for over 9 years. At least 6-8 weeks a year for work in their hotels. This is the last time I stay in their hotels...”

“We stayed at the Sofitel Hotel in Marrakech - the hotel is lovely and the amenities such as the swimming pool is a welcome break from the intense Moroccan heat of summer. My complaint with this hotel is the male staff that exhibit bizarre behaviour that is completely opposite to the female staff who are always professional, courteous, welcoming and helpful. Several occasions when approaching the front desk to ask a direction or for a specific service such as car rentals availability etc. they keep you waiting while they are tapping away on their mobile phones and sharing a joke amongst each other. I saw one woman get upset as they made her wait so long. This happened us several times. There seems to be this attitude that they are too good for their jobs and find it beneath them to actually do the job they are paid to do. When you ask a question or disturb them, they get visibly annoyed and twice I had to ask a particular member of staff to help an elderly man with his bags and who was clearly was struggling. In the dining room the same type of behaviour with the male staff refusing to answer questions or suddenly forgetting they spoke English when they previously had.  The final most disturbing part of this is mail - I gave them 4 postcards (with enough postage) over a matter of 3 days to post - none of these made it back to the UK. My friends at various times also gave postcards to post, none of these made it either, my wife before leaving handed over several postcards and none of them made it back. I believe they were throwing away the postcards and couldn’t be bothered to mail them such was their disdain for their guests. To the hotel Sofitel corporate management - I strongly suggest you remove your reception staff and give the jobs to the women. They clearly do a much better job than their male counterparts. I would not stay here again and in future when visiting Marrakech will stay elsewhere.”
