“My family and I were there for a two day stay. We had 3 little kids, 1, 3, & 9 yrs old. We checked in the lobby was beautiful, employees nice. Then we went to our room, the family suite, room 457 with one bathroom. My daughter went into the bathroom and there was mold on the ceiling. We moved to another room 405 and there was mold on the shower curtain and the bathtub was dirty. The third room we moved to 557, the air conditioning unit had a leak and my husband stepped into a swampy area of water. The only thing that was offered was breakfast during our stay. We declined, the only request we made was to be comped for one night of our 2 day stay. They declined. The manager would not even come out from the back room to speak with me. Please please know that this is a historical hotel, but really there is no reason for management not to be professional enough to make the customer happy. I work in customer service and you have to give 100% to get 100%. The only employee I would give 5 Stars too is the Doorman, Steve, he is the epitome of customer service, very cheerful and helpful during our stay.”

I stayed in this hotel during the new years I liked staying in the hotel because the lobby and the hallway looks beautiful. Suite 900 was a beautiful suite and it is big and it has a living room and a dining area and 2 fridges and 2 beds and jacuzzi and a very awesome view of the lake and city. Some people that went to the new years party trashed some parts of the hotel hallways. It is a very great hotel to stay at and it is not that expensive to stay at. It is very good location and has good food.

I'll be honest, I really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. I read all the reviews and had a good idea of what to expect. The hotel was clean and the bed fairly comfortable. Yes, the hotel is old and could do with some upgrades, but we found a bit of humor in some of the workmanship and decor choices. In terms of hotel prices in Chicago, this place is tough to beat. I found the price to be very reasonable in terms of value. If you're just looking for a place to get some sleep while exploring the city, I wouldn't hesitate to book. In fact, I'm fairly certain I'll be staying here again.

The room was very clean and much nicer than I expected given the reviews I read. The beds had very attractive and soft velvety covers that was nice to rest on after a bunch of walking. The bed itself was firm but oddly very comfortable, however the pillows were too thick for my comfort, I had to use a throw pillow. The bathroom was dated and faucets a little difficult to turn but it had very little impact on the stay. They provided plenty of towels and numerous hygiene products, there was a fridge and microwave, and they had 2 complementary water bottles which were a lifesaver coming from the airport. The location cannot be beat, and the lake view was amazing, I highly recommend paying the extra ~20$. We did not try the breakfast cafe, due to the reviews, but we probably should have, as it is incredibly difficult to find breakfast in downtown. The first place we went was closed for maintenance, second one it took the waitress 30+ mins to get our order so we left cause we were starving (should have waited though), third place we paid 10-15$ for a bagel sandwich and 6.50$ for a small late. We brought it back to the hotel room and ate at the little glass table in front of the beautiful view. So! I recommend preparing breakfast options the day before or check out the cafe. Overall, I was very impressed with the hotel and the rooms, especially for the price. 10/10 would stay again. (But I'll bring my own bagels and cream cheese.)

This resort is the best rated in this area. I've been coming here for a very long time. If you stay for a few nights you for sure won't be let down.The hotel definitely shows its age but overall the price and value are worth it. We had a lakeview room and the view was amazing! We were able to easily walk to our destinations and loved the location. The bed was comfy, they had several small amenities in the room, the room was clean, and the staff was friendly. We had lunch at the restaurant and while service was a little slow, our waitress was very friendly and kept us updated. I would absolutely stay here again!

Muy buen hotel, un clásico de Chicago inaugurado en 1893 con 900 habitaciones. Excelente ubicación, necesita una renovación general..pero por el precio pagado esta muy bien, habitaciones amplias, limpias y muy cómodas sus camas. El personal podría ser un poco más servicial .

Teníamos reserva por 3 noches. Al llegar al establecimiento pagamos las 3 noches por adelantado y al día siguiente de pasar la primera noche aquí vinieron dos hombres de seguridad al cuarto para echarnos. Pasamos un mal rato. Al día siguiente entró una mujer a nuestro cuarto que no era de la limpieza y decía que había entrado para chequear. Fuimos al lobby para quejarnos sobre esto y nadie nos hizo caso y no nos trataron bien. La habitación estaba fría no funcionaba bien la calefacción y nos dieron un calefactor eléctrico. También encontramos una mañana el bolso que habíamos dejado cerrado abierto. La verdad pasamos muy malos ratos aquí. No se los deseo a nadie. La ubicación era muy buena y por esa razón decidimos quedarnos en este hotel. Solo eso bueno.

Si vienes a Chicago, elige otro hotel. El trato no ha sido especialmente bueno. Reservé por Agoda y me estuvieron haciendo check in y check out todos los días… subieron los de seguridad a echarnos de la habitación cuando no tenían por qué, ya que estaba todo pagado desde hacía semanas. Por otra parte, no han venido a limpiar la habitación hasta que se lo hemos pedido y cuál fue nuestra sorpresa al llegar, que una mochilita que dejamos cerrada y tapada la encontramos abierta. Hablamos con recepción sobre lo ocurrido y no ha servido para nada. No hay cámaras de seguridad en los pasillos tampoco y una de las noches entró en el hotel una banda de encapuchados que nos siguieron hasta el ascensor; mi amiga y yo tuvimos mucho miedo y nos alejamos del ascensor para ir a otra zona del hotel, y también nos siguieron. Finalmente tras unos cuantos minutos en el bar del hotel, subimos a la habitación y no salimos en toda la noche, y era la noche del sábado, que nos apetecía salir a conocer algunos lugares. La seguridad malísima. No vengas.

This place was fantastic. We had a group of 7 guys staying in two different rooms. The hotel is definitely a bit dated but it is a three star hotel. The rooms were extremely clean and house keeping did a great job! They were happy to hold our bags after we checked out which was very convenient. The guys in the front foyer were a lot of fun and frequently chatted us up before we leaving a few times.

It’s okay. Nothing special, but not terrible. Enjoyed having the family sized room with 2 teens. Rooms could benefit from a deep clean as there was black mold on the window A/C unit. We cleaned it ourselves with some cotton swabs. The air intake vents on the built in heat/cooling systems were full of dust. The best part about it was that we were able to walk to most places we visited since they were all within about a mile; however, there are many other hotel choices nearby that would provide the same ease. Staff was very nice. Parking: We parked in the Grant Park South garage. Buy the pass online prior to your trip for a discount. We paid $66 total for 3 days. Free, unlimited ins and outs by scanning the barcode on the pass. Lots of spots and only 2 blocks away.

Evitable sin duda, se le caen las estrellas por su propio peso. Pagas la ubicación, nada más. No hay limpieza de habitaciones durante la estancia, y cada día, el servicio de limpieza llama a cada puerta cada media hora desde las 8 de la mañana para ver si te vas y así limpiar. El vater no funciona, tienes que tirar varias veces. Pero para mi lo peor fue el trato al cliente. Pedí una habitación silenciosa y parece que les da igual, me dieron la habitación al lado del ascensor, con vistas a la calle principal y comunicada con otra habitación adjunta, en la que se oía todo (hasta toser). Tuvimos que hablar entre vecinos para respetarnos. Sin duda, no volveré.

I was catfished by the pictures posted of this hotel. It looked so nice and luxurious. In real life, it’s old, outdated, and not well-kept. It doesn’t look anything like the photos online. It smells funny. It’s falling apart. You only get hot water if you wake up before 8am and hurry. Small TV (I doubt it was 20”). Broken coffeemaker. Tiny bathroom with toilet similar to a locker room. Paint chipping, leaks on wall and ceiling, wallpaper peeling. Holes in walls. Very low-class and ghetto feeling. Felt like I was slumming it. The only plus is the location—everything within walking distance. Nice view of the Lake if you get a Lake View King room, but even that room was small. I would never recommend this place unless you can get it for $65 a night. I wished I had stayed at a franchise for what I paid. I was disgusted from the moment I walked into the lobby. If you drink the 2 bottles of water sitting on the dresser they charge you $8. It was not a good experience.

The staff was great. As with other posts, the hotel is a bit dated but super clean and you can tell it was a gem in its day. The bar is beautiful and in need of an easy upgrade. Seriously, this is just a minor tweak and the bar would be outstanding. Advice to management, grab a recipe book that specializes in prohibition era cocktails, add some heavy velvet curtains, play jazz music, and stock up on some garnishes and glassware. This place is dying to become a classy cocktail bar and it’s an easy (and cheap) fix. Oh, and it’s haunted (google it)

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights & for an affordable price, it was quite decent. You can really see that the hotel has aged quite a bit especially with the rooms, the hallways & the elevator. However, their lobby is gorgeous! It honestly, looks like a historical museum! Secondly, there is no free parking, so they recommended us to do overnight parking for $46.00 at a parking lot beside the hotel, where we weren't able to do in & outs. Although, the hotel's location is fantastic! Most of the tourist attractions were within walking distance. This was the best part! Lastly, my least favorite part, was dealing with the receptionists while checking in, they were quite rude and did not give clear instructions. Nonetheless, the baggage/luggage guys were very helpful & even escorted us all the way to our hotel room. Overall, if you're just looking for a place to sleep after a long day of sight-seeing in Chicago, this is the perfect hotel for you! But, if you're planning on spending some time at a hotel, please look elsewhere!

It's old and in need of repair but its location is perfect! I had a lake view penthouse room that was quiet and had an amazing view. The AC button fell off so I could not change the temp or fan level. The sound and temp could only be quelled by putting a pillow on the vent. The staff were friendly and fantastically accommodating. It's good for a no frills, low price.

The lobby was the only thing that look good at this hotel. The smell hear is awful. I wanted to take a bath but I could not because it was broke. The tile in the shower was piece together. The tv didn’t work half the time. It was fuzzy and some channel didn’t work. The closet is painted shut. The sheets on the bed are 2 flat sheet and no fitted sheets because they have it mail down where you can’t tuck a fitted sheet. There is liquid on the walls and the carpet is not layer right. I will not be back at this hotel ever.

Hotel looks great. Lobby is fabulous. Hotel rooms are certainly aging but have been kept up well and furniture is modern. Water is yellow for the first few seconds after turning it on so not sure what that's about. Staff is really friendly and helpful. This hotel is a relatively easy walk from a few locations in Chicago. Navy Pier and the Museum District are accessible though you will definitely get your steps in going to both. The hotel is a refurbished historical property that also has convention center amenities but I did not use this hotel for meetings or a convention. This is why I gave it 4 stars, the room was clean and good but the AC was way outdated. I cannot speak for how well its heated in the winter but in some 70F weather that was a bit humid it only just cut through the humidity in the room I had. And the bathrooms are small if you don't ask for an accessible one. I am unable to accurately describe overall accessibility but there were ramps, several elevators, but this would be something you should reach out to the hotel directly for. If you are seeing a show at the nearby Auditorium this is a fabulous choice since you only have to go across the street to be there. There is NO parking on site, you have to use valet behind the hotel. There are two restaurants on site, one is a breakfast nook and the other is a lunch and dinner location. I was pleased with the meals I had at each of them. You can also get room service from these restaurants but it must be through the hotel you can't get delivery from a 3rd party app.

Really enjoyed our stay here, first time visiting Chicago from Oklahoma and this unique hotel did not disappoint. You can tell its def an older hotel but the historic look was a cool experience. One employee stood out to us the most his name was Jose, not only did he save us money on giving us knowledge on which transportation to take, his energy and his hospitability was so amazing. I see why he has worked here so many years, he is def a keeper. Highly recommend this hotel and will def stay again.

The history of this Hotel incredibly, since 1983. The main reason why you should stay in this Hotel, is mainly the location, you have everything you can look for in this city. The rooms are comfortable, spacious, not luxurious, but very clean. The hotel staff are excellent. I didn't eat at his restaurant. The bar is very cool. The lobby is super cozy and elegant.

The hotel is historic so staying here is more about history and location. They have great views of Grant Park and Lake Michigan. The hotel has been visited by numerous former presidents and has some lovely original decor. Rooms are nice but being a historic building room temperature control is non-existent. I like staying there but I don't always sleep comfortably (warm rooms suck for sleeping).

I will first say that I got a GREAT rate for this hotel, about $100/day. Just based off that and the location I was sold!I knew the place was old, but I liked that. It certainly has a charm. However the oldness continues into the rooms and that's where it gets less than stellar.For some reason I think all the rooms face interior, so my view is of the roof of the conference center, less than ideal. The air conditioner is ancient. In fact I think it's just a fan and has no thermostat, so it's constantly hot.I would definitely recommend this room if you just need somewhere to sleep, and are on a budget, but if you plan to spend time in the room, look elsewhere.

The location of the hotel is the best part of it. There is no parking lot attached to the hotel, just a parking lot next to the hotel they recommend that costs $46 for 24 hours, no leaving and coming back allowed. The hotel has some beautiful parts in it with historical features. The only downside to that meant that the hotel had the possibility of being dated which it was. The carpet, wallpaper, and heating system needed updated badly in mostly the entire hotel. There was a pretty good gym on the 3rd floor with around 13 working equipments to choose from. Another downside was the price of the food in the restaurant inside the hotel, with a price of $12 for 2 eggs and a cup of coffee. The bar hotel was practically empty on a Saturday night, the drinks weren't to uncommonly priced. We had fun on the pool table which charged 1.50 per game. The staff was friendly enough other than one of the security guards. The hotel room was pretty clean, with great amenities in terms of a wash cap, tooth brushes, sewing kits, and some other normal items. The water is not complimentary it does cost $4 and parts of the room you could tell the age of the hotel. We were on the 14th floor and room was easy to find. There are no microwaves in the room so you have to go to the 1st floor to heat up food. The beds were also full size not queen sizes.

El hotel es viejo pero está mantenido. Los pasillos realmente daban miedo pero la habitación era espaciosa y luminosa, el agua caliente funcionaba bien aunque demoraba mucho en salir y nunca entendí como funcionaba la calefacción (equipo muy antiguo). El hotel se encuentra muy bien ubicado y bien conectado con las líneas de metro. el personal ha sido muy servicial.

El hotel está bonito pero el calentador de la recamara no funcionaba y estaba roto, la tina tampoco funcionaba y finalmente nunca nos hicieron el servicio del cuarto, regresamos a descansar a las 7pm y aun no estaban tendidas las camas y el cuarto no lo habian aseado, tuvimos q marcar a recepcion para pedir la limpieza de la recamara.

I booked a stay at the Congress for Valentine's Day weekend. I must say, it was amazing! The outside of the building has so much charm to it. Check-in was by far the easiest I've experienced for staying at hotels. My room was just gorgeous as the pictures were in the reviewed by other guests and featured pictures from websites. The bed was a queen but appeared to be way actually bigger in person and felt like a king size bed. Absolutely no complaints about that! I felt like I was in my own studio apartment the only it needed was a stove and a fridge. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. It was nice and quiet throughout my stay from February 12-15, 2022. I highly recommend to first-time visitors to Chicago. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Extremamente bem localizado. Qusrtos sao bons. Nao se assuste com os corredores, os quartos sao bem melhores que eles. O custo e alto mas foi o melhor queencontramos da regiao. Pode se fazer tudo a pé. Hotel mantem as bagagens pós check out até as 23h.

Hotel histórico inaugurado em 1893, bem conservado, muito bem localizado, da p fazer tudo a pé,chama atenção o luxo obsolecentedo piso e paredes de granito muito bem decorados,quarto enorme , cama confortável, mas devido a idade pequeno problema se isolamento acústico,se for quarto de fundo se escuta o trem elevado,que passa a uma quadra . Restaurante bom , café da manhã muito bom por 20 dólares.

Beautiful lobby! Nice staff but not talkative. Which made it seem more suspect.The only thing is this place is haunted. You ever seen the shining. That's what it feels like. Very weird feeling. I heard a woman talking and we didn't have anyone staying next to us. Unfortunately, I was the only one that heard her. My family was a sleep. She sound as if she wasn't from this time. I would not recommend this place. If you want a peace of mind. I would rather sleep outside on the sidewalk and have people think I'm homeless than set foot in this place. When I looked it up I didn't see any reviews. Although it has been 10 years since I've been. I still remember as if it was yesterday. Never ever again. Repeat Never ever again!

Not likely to stay again. Check in was easy but upon getting to my room temperature was like a sauna. After trying the different settings over the first night I ended up just turning the whole system off and even then the hot temperature was barely manageable. When checking out I was told I needed to ask the morning of if I can get a late check out. Normal check out is 12. The front desk staff said I could check out at 1pm. Shortly after 12 not only did I have house keeping pressing to get in but I got a not so nice phone call from the front staff because apparently the late check out wasn't noted. The hotel was almost barren so it was odd that they were in such a rush to get me out and find it acceptable to be rude about it. As I was even leaving the room at 1, security and me crossed paths as they were sending someone up to get me out! Not the hotel experience I was looking for.

My company put me up at this hotel for a week. The staff was kind, and the front door security personnel were great and willing to help me with my request. The down side to the facility was it's out dated, understandably since the facility is a Chicago landmark, but make a little effort to update the lake view rooms. The room TV was fuzzy, plus I found a bag of marijuana (.50 oz. reported to front desk/flushed down the toilet) in my room that was left behind by another client. I was given (1) voucher for each day that I stayed there, (which was 7), but the evening I went to claim them, they said they were only able to claim on Friday. It would been nice to know that before I got dressed and went downstairs on my last day. Would I recommend this place, no other hotels offer at least a morning breakfast daily for the price.

My friend and I stayed here for 5 days in September. Overall, we had a great time! The staff was very friendly. From the front desk receptionist to the security personnel, everyone seemed to genuinely care about our stay there.The security guard recommend some great places to eat and was nice enough to provide us a tour of the hotel.Our first night we could not figure out their heating system.We are from Texas, low 50s is chilly for us.We called the front desk and asked how to turn on the heater and if we could have extra blankets.The front desk worker was so nice and said she'd bring them up shortly.Next thing we knew, there was a knock on the door, the front desk worker had come up with extra blankets as well as a portable heater.We so appreciated that! The rooms were modern and well maintained for the age of the hotel. For some reason, the tall mirror hanging on the wall fell.We had to call the front desk and maintenance came quickly to fix it.We loved the location! Everything was in walking distance. We did not try the Bar or the Breakfast diner.We absolutely loved our Chicago Trip and the hotel was wonderful. A bit spooky here and there but overall lovely.

Stayed NYE.Our room was clean decor in the room was updated. Staff was friendly and professional.We ate at Rafeal restaurant in the hotel beef minestrone was very good meat was tender.Had a salad lettuce was crisp lots of tomatoes carrots and cucumber. Our server did a great job.Need to clean common areas stairwells and hallways.

Old and rundown, get to the room and the toilet is running. Wait an hour, maintenance shows up and fixes it. Get food delivered, go to the front desk after I get a call to the room about it, and the front desk manager is super rude about it, assuming I should know that the security people were the ones to call me. Probably should get some training for her, super rude, and all I was asking was if my food was there. This was all after check in.Before check in, we had our reservation canceled by the hotel. We had booked the reservation with a card that expired before arrival, and rather than call us and ask for another card, they canceled our reservation with no notice. Cool. Call up after getting the cancelation email and get told they're sold out, 2 days before our stay. Neat. Go online, to the hotel's website, and book a room, literally 30 seconds after being told they're sold out. Wow imagine that.Don't stay here. There's a few hotels in the area that are the same price range, updated, that I'm sure have fewer issues than this place. Can't believe they've made it this far with such bad service, negative employees, and poorly maintained rooms.

I decided to stay here even after reading reviews of being haunted because of location, price and because I did not mind an old spooky hotel with history. However, the service was poor and not welcoming. Whoever owns this hotel has no pride in it nor cares about customers’ experience or service. The hostess who checked us in was cold, unfriendly and shared nothing about area, amenities, parking etc. It was like she was trying to get rid of us quickly. We were staying for 5 nights and yet every day I had to ask for toilet paper for the room. The hotel is poorly lighted and they gym is spooky, the breakfast room has a poor menu and no one attends it. I rarely saw people walking around and it was New Years holiday!

Not sure why there are bad reviews. The hotel was nicer than I expected. The rooms are dated but that is to be expected from a hotel this old. We were pleasantly surprised to find that our double bed room actually had the second bed in a "bedroom" in the room. The beds were hard but not necessarily uncomfortable. They gave us a free drink ticket at check in. The lounge/bar was nice and not packed Saturday night. The breakfast in the morning was a steal for the price. Parking was at the parking structure right behind the hotel. Prices are listed on the website. It was super simple. We were able to check out quickly and they held our bags till we were ready to leave. Would stay here again.

It was very clean and nice! Had a scary experience but I love spooky so I enjoyed it all. I had McDonald’s delivered and my friend and I got into an argument about something in the sitting area on our floor and I slammed my McDonald’s down on the table and touched one of the heavy chairs and went downstairs to cool off. This was about 12 am. When we came back up the McDonald’s was absolutely everywhere, ripped apart all over the sitting area and the heavy chair was completely across the room. It was crazy to see but I definitely recommend this hotel, the rooms are beautiful and the fright is apart of the charm!

Buen hotel. Bastante antiguo conserva un elegante lobby de su época. La ubicación es muy buena muy cerca de varias atracciones famosas.. Transporte público pasa justo frente. La zona es segura. La atención del personal es muy buena y las comodidades de las habitaciones también. La verdad lo recomiendo totalmente. Precio, ubicación, atención y comodidad Es bastante bueno. No tiene estacionamiento pero justo detrás tiene uno público que por 45 $ tienes tu vehículo seguro por 24horas.

Nunca hagan una reservación en este hotel, pésimo mantenimiento las habitaciones en muy malas condiciones sucias y deterioradas. El servicio malo . La tina sucia y oxidada . De verdad no reserven en este hotel no vale para nada lo q pagas. El mantenimiento en el hotel es nulo. Puertas rotas.

Excelente ubicación, en especial para los que corren la Chicago Marathon (frente a uno de los ingresos). El lobby muy lindo, pero las habitaciones antiguas, falta mejorar en eso. (Estuve en el 2018)

Laubicación de este hotel es excelente!!Te puedes desplazar a pie a todos los sitios de interés. Esta enorme y aunque está ya viejito pues es un clásico, está muy limpio y agradable. Si lo recomiendo y si volvería definitivamente. Frente a la fuente de buckingham.

Hotel antiguo. El lobby es lindo pero las habitaciones son demasiado viejas para el precio que se paga por ellas. Además huelen demasiado a humedad... El tv es casi un minimonitor, pocos canales y ni siquiera son smart tv... No volveria a quedarme jamás en este hotel.
